It’s a New Year and our first post of 2016! Happy New Year!
I can’t believe it’s already been two and a half weeks since the NYC marathon. It’s still somewhat surreal that it’s over. This was my second marathon, and I’ve admitted a few times now that I was pretty nervous about it. Since I’m a more experienced runner than when I ran my first marathon four years ago, I really wanted to do better this time around.
Well, I beat my time from before, so yay!
Five more sleeps and it’s race day!
Thursday was my longest run for my marathon training. I can’t tell you how excited I am that it is over!
It was kind of a tough run, because several thunderstorms were passing through that morning. I ran almost the entire thing in the pouring down rain, which I’ll admit isn’t all that terrible considering the heat we’ve been having, but the lightning kind of freaked me out. Can you imagine getting struck by lightning?!? There goes all that training!!!!
So I found this underpass and ran circles underneath it every time I saw lightning nearby. It was a four hour run and that portion took up about an hour of my run=( UGH! Imagine running circles around your bedroom…that’s kind of what it was like. The sad part was that my watch couldn’t get a signal while I was in the underpass, so a good part of my run was not recorded. If you’ve ever done a long run, I know you understand my pain. Read More…
Yesterday I started my 10th week of marathon training, and it’s been going okay. It hasn’t been my best go around, but I suppose I shouldn’t really complain. Jackson has been sleeping incredibly well and considering how busy it has been lately, I’d say I’m super close to exactly where I should be with my training.
I can tell I’m a little weak though, because I did 50 air squats this weekend and am still a little sore. Craziness! So in the coming weeks I’m going to add a little more strength work to help build my core and legs. That way by mid-October when I begin to taper, I’m hoping to feel super confident about the race. I have a girlfriend who’s expecting on the same day of the race, and she and I joke on who’s going to be in more pain that day=) What do you think? Read More…
It’s been two months since I ran the Miami Beach Halloween Half Marathon, and I thought it was about time for a recap. With the holidays having past and resolutions being made, I liked the idea of putting this recap at the start of the year. It’s a great motivator and will, hopefully, encourage me, and perhaps a few others, to keep going.
