I know what you’re thinking, I can’t possibly eat the Halloween candy. I’m on a diet, I can’t take my child’s candy, I shouldn’t eat sweets…but then reality sets in and you see the candy on the counter, and you think, “well, just one piece.” Then one becomes two and three and four, and then a week goes by and you feel terrible, because you’ve eaten way too much candy! Ahhhh!
Glorious days at the beach, staying up as late as the sun, barbecues, ice cream trucks, running barefoot all day, everyday…summer has countless activities every kid loves. But along with those amazing experiences, also comes this one terrible, terrible phrase so many parents here, “I’m bored.”
Two words said over and over again. I’m not really a must-entertain-my-child-every-second-of-everyday kinda mom. I would lose my mind. However, on occasion I’ll throw together a few ideas for Gwyneth and I to do together, and almost always we both have a grand time;) So begins my little blog series for the next couple months – Summer Projects for Kids: Bake A Cake.
Monday, August 10th is National S’Mores Day! Doesn’t that sound delicious? I can’t think of a better start to the week than that! Of course, when I think of s’mores, I immediately think of summer nights spent around a campfire. There’s nothing better than sitting around a fire and roasting a marshmallow to perfection. I always liked mine a little bit burnt, but that’s a matter of personal taste =)
Well, we are finally back in Barbados after spending the last several weeks in DC. It’s nice to be back to warm weather, have my own bed again, and not be living out of a suitcase, but it’s always sad to leave family and friends especially for Gwyneth. So before we left, we had a wonderful afternoon with my mom (her Nana) and made these fabulous peeps rice krispie treats I was loving a couple weeks ago. Yes, they’re made with peeps!!!
I have a sweet tooth. Probably not a shocker to most! And so when I first started following the paleo diet I thought I was going to go into some serious dessert withdrawal, but after a couple of months I discovered there was a paleo version to just about every dessert out there. Cupcakes, ice cream, cookies, cake, fudge, you name it, someone has attempted to make it paleo, or at the very least paleo-esque. So you can imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this chocolate chip cookie recipe from BakerGal. In fact, I was even more thrilled at the fact that she had done actual research to find the best chocolate chip cookies. What a job, right?! I need to start incorporating dessert-taste-testing research into my daily regime. What a great way to spend the day! Read More…
I would like to start a petition. It’s the holidays, and I’d love nothing more than for the “Crazy Target Lady” to come back. Having lived overseas for nearly eight years and with most of my friends now being from all over the world, whenever I mention her, they just don’t understand. But, if you are American, you know who she is (well, if you watch TV chances are pretty good). The super jolly, overly enthusiastic, bundle of Christmas joy Target shopper. It’s been a few years and perhaps you’ve forgotten, or you chose to remove her from your memory. Either which, I miss her. The first time I saw her commercials I was scared and tempted to change the channel. Then she sort of became the train wreck you can’t look away from; but, this train wreck was decked out in tinsel and holly. And, then she was the annoying, but really funny relative you’re embarrassed to invite over, but whom you secretly really like and will miss when they’re gone. Yup, that’s where I’m at. She’s my crazy aunt and I miss her. She made me laugh and she kicked off a jolly-filled, fruit cake-covered, wrapped in a big giant red bow, enthusiastic kind of season. Actually, I do know that a petition has already been created, so if your holiday heart feels a little empty without her too, go check it out. We’re not alone! Read More…
